Daniel“I'm making Aliyah because of my emerging Jewish and Israeli identity. My mother is Israeli, and as a result, that whole half of my family is there, and I'm incredibly close with them. My cousins are more like siblings, my aunt is like my second mother. In the past three years in particular, there has been a number of very difficult times including the passing of my aunt from cancer. These times however, brought us closer together and strengthened my desire to go to Israel. I'm choosing to serve in the IDF to play a part in protecting my family and new found home. My grandfather was a long time veteran of the Israeli independence war era. Growing up on his stories I learned the value of Zionism and the importance of Israel to the Jewish people. Moving to Israel and learning the Hebrew language I hope to strengthen my Israeli identity and contribute as much as I can to the culture and the Jewish community as a whole.”
